Jean Chapiro is a filmmaker and journalist from Mexico City. She recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania holding a B.A in Cinema Studies, Communication, and Visual Studies. Since she was 8 years old she has been producing her own short films. However, in the Summer of 2020 Jean got her first professional job in the entertainment industry working as a production assistant at a documentary production company in Mexico. This experience, in the midst of a pandemic, made Jean realize the extent to which entertainment can be used as a vehicle of empowerment with the capabilities of mobilizing true change. From this experience, Jean was inspired to tell her own story and share her own struggles with an eating disorder. Through “Hambre: Hungry for life” Jean attempts to change the shameful lens through which eating disorders are viewed in Mexican society for one of acceptance and understanding.
